US Congress approves sanctions against Nord Stream-2
The sanctions will affect companies participating in the construction of the gas pipeline.
The US House of Representatives approved the defense budget law, which added provisions on sanctions against companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2, writes “League. Business«.
According to the document, sanctions will also apply if these pipelines change their name or are replaced by others.

Sanctions are imposed on:
1) vessels engaged in pipe laying at a depth of 100 feet below sea level;
2) foreign persons who knowingly sold, leased or provided these vessels for construction, as well as facilitated deceptive or complex operations with the purpose of providing these vessels for the construction of gas pipelines.
Among the restrictions imposed by this decision:
1) a ban on the issuance of American visas and the cancellation of existing visas for employees or co-owners of companies that have fallen under sanctions;
2) the freezing of property and assets of such persons in the United States.

A decision taken by the House of Representatives must pass approval in the Senate. It is expected that this will happen early next week. Then it must be signed by the president.
Not later than 60 days from the date of entry into force of this law, the Secretary of State and the State Treasury jointly submit to Congress committees a report in which the organizations and persons subject to sanctions will be named. Companies participating in the construction of Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream will have 30 days after the entry into force of the law in order to stop the activities related to the construction of pipelines.
