The largest cruise ship in the world will soon be launched in Miami: what surprises Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International on its official YouTube channel presented a video showing the largest cruise ship in the world called Icon of the Seas. iXBT.

Construction of Icon of the Seas has already begun and is expected to be launched in 2023. According to the plan, the liner will be sent on its first Caribbean cruise in 2024. This is the first ship in the world to be powered by liquefied natural gas.

Icon of the Seas will have 2805 cabins that can accommodate a total of 5610 people in doubles. The crew is 2350 people. The maximum number of people on board can reach 9950 people (if you put more than 2 people in a cabin, which is acceptable). The liner will receive 20 decks, which will house numerous shops and a jacuzzi, as well as 40 restaurants, a water park and even a concert hall with a waterfall.

The vessel will be equipped with 7 pools and 6 water slides. Icon of the Seas is also set to receive the world's tallest waterfall, tallest waterslide, largest water park, and the first sea-going suspended infinity pool.

The displacement of the vessel will be 250 tons with a length of 800 m.

Icon of the Seas will have 8 areas to help passengers easily navigate the ship, reports Royalcaribbeanblog. At the front of the ship, Icon of the Seas will have an AquaDome. In fact, there will be an indoor water theatre. It is a multi-purpose space with huge floor-to-ceiling windows providing 220-degree views. Aerial gymnasts, acrobatics, high jumps and the highest waterfall in the sea (16 m) will be presented here.

When the space is not being used for a show, passengers can enjoy panoramic ocean views and waterfall views while enjoying a snack or drink.

Central Park

Icon of the Seas will have its own lush green space with thousands of real plants, restaurants and live music aboard.

Royal Caribbean has plans to build the best pool in the sea in the Chill Island area. Chill Island will have great ocean views from the three-deck pool. Swim & Tonic, the first waterfront bar, is planned for Icon of the Seas. You will also find the largest pool in the sea at Royal Bay Pool.

If you want a more relaxing pool experience, head to the Cove Pool with sun loungers in the water.

And adults can find their place at Cloud 17, an adults-only secluded pool with its own Lime & Coconut bar.

  Located in the area on Chill Island on deck 17. Opening hours: 8:00 - 19:00. Maximum capacity: 249 people.
• Swim & Tonic: The world's first swim-up bar located in Chill Island on deck 16.
  Capacity 12 people. Opening hours: from 9:00 to late evening.

Entertainment

Are you ready for the biggest water park in the sea? The new water park will be located on deck 6. It will feature six water slides, including an open free fall slide, the highest slide in the sea, family raft slides that can accommodate four people at a time, and two mat racing slides.

• Frightening Bolt: The highest waterslide in the sea.
• Pressure Drop: The first open free fall slide at sea.
• Storm-Chasers (2): Longest offshore mat racing slides.
• Hurricane Hunter: The family's first rafting trip at sea.
• Storm Surge: The first suspended family raft ride at sea.

All adventures in the water park on deck 6 are free during its opening hours: from 9:00 to 22:00.

Crown's Edge

Crown's Edge is part skywalk, part rope course, part thrill ride and test of courage. At any moment the floor can collapse and you will hang high above the ocean.

There will be one FlowRider surf simulator on board, as well as other brand highlights such as Adrenaline Peak, the ultimate climbing expedition, sports field and a completely reimagined mini golf course.

Surfside

Surfside is a new area designed for young families and is the focus of Icon of the Seas.

The area will include baby and child bathing areas and a mom and me bar with matching cocktails for kids and adults.

Baby Bay is for babies who are still in diapers and is a place where they can splash and play.

Adults can relax in the Water's Edge pool while kids play in Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay with slides, fountains, water cannons and more.

Waters Edge opening hours: 8:00 am to 19:00 pm.

The Hideaway

Another brand new location is The Hideaway, which is a Royal Caribbean version of the beach club.

Think of a pool party in Las Vegas! Here you will find the first suspended infinity pool in the sea. There is a multi-level terrace, a jacuzzi, plenty of seating and a dedicated bar.

Hideaway Pool opening hours: from 9:00 to 22:00.

Luxury zone

Royal Suite benefits will be available at Icon of the Seas, including three decks for suite guests. This will be Royal Caribbean's largest luxury guest area and includes the suite's sundeck, Coastal Kitchen and a new luxury-only eatery, The Grove.

Royal Promenade

As you enter the ship, you will see The Pearl, a stunning new space. The Royal Promenade will have one major change that most guests will notice: windows! Another feature of the Royal Promenade is the largest ice arena in Absolute Zero.

Cabins and suites at Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has 28 different Icon of the Seas cruise ship cabins to choose from among the most spacious rooms designed by the cruise line.

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship has new cabin categories, new areas and views never seen before.

Over 82% of all rooms aboard Icon of the Seas will accommodate 3 or more guests, and over 70% of all rooms aboard Icon of the Seas will have a balcony.

In total, there are 2805 cabins on the liner:

• 179 suites.
• 1815 cabins with balcony.
• 276 ocean view cabins.
• 535 interior cabins.

New generation power

Icon will be the first of the cruise line's three ships to run on LNG (liquefied natural gas).

LNG and modern green applications such as shore power will improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. More information about Icon's advanced environmental technologies will be revealed in the future.

Traditionally, cruise ships run on diesel fuel. The advantage of LNG over diesel is that it is more energy efficient and reduces fuel consumption and emissions.

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bailey spoke about the effectiveness of Icon of the Seas: “Our new Icon class comes with an LNG hybrid, but it's mostly CNG. It is 35% more energy efficient than conventional fuel."

In addition, Icon of the Seas will use a shore power connection that eliminates emissions when connected in port.

What is The Pearl?

In January 2022, a large pearl-shaped object appeared at the shipyard, which attracted the attention of cruise fans. For now, The Pearl is the centerpiece of the Royal Promenade and the first thing you'll see when you enter the ship.

• It took 45 labor hours to build the sphere.
• During the 2022 presidential cruise, Michael Bailey accidentally let it slip that the sphere is called "The Pearl."

Reservation open from October 24 to members of the Royal Caribbean Crown and Anchor, and from October 25 to the rest of the public.
