The most important thing for truck drivers: convenient schedule and high income

How to start a new life in a new country - this question arises before every immigrant leaving the American airport. It is believed that getting a job with a high salary without long training or difficult retraining is unrealistic. However, our today's hero completely refutes this opinion. Truck driver Sergey Filipenko spoke about working as a truck driver in the USA.

To my American dream Sergey Filipenko approached through an unexpected sphere for himself - a programmer in the past, he has been working as a driver for a truck company Davis Cargo for more than three years. Today Sergey has his own truck, an individual work schedule, Russian-speaking colleagues and, most importantly, a salary, about which we can speak with pride. For an immigrant who came to the United States only four years ago without knowing English, this is a great success.

Sergey Filipenko is more than satisfied with the working conditions. He says that he has never met such attentive attitude towards the workers either in Kyrgyzstan or in the USA, and he has something to compare with. Ongoing support of the company's dispatchers Davis cargo, ready to help in any situations, and a complete understanding in the event of force majeure or unforeseen delays. But the most important thing is, of course, the salary.

«I don't know how they do it., - says Sergey, - but they have really high prices for cargo».

Sergey confesses that when he came to the United States, he had no idea that he would ever want to change his usual office environment and become a long-distance truck driver. However, the truck environment captured Filipenko so much that now he does not plan to change his profession. For new immigrants, especially those who do not speak English at a sufficient level, the trucker profession can become not only a lifeline, but also a completely worthy alternative to professions that require months or even several years of training. The main thing, says Sergey, is to find the right company, in which they respect their truckers and build the right relationship.

First Venture

Sergey Filipenko was in America about four years ago almost by accident. He applied for a green card lottery on the advice of friends at a time when he was experiencing certain difficulties at work, and soon forgot about it. Sergey admits that on the day when he saw the results, his knowledge of English was not enough to even understand what was said on the site.

The job search took almost half a year from the newcomer emigrant. And all was unsuccessful, American employers demanded experience in the United States.

«I could not afford to work for another half a year, earning almost nothing, just to gain experience - I just ran out of money. By that moment I had already heard a lot about the possibility of working as a truck driver and earning good money. At first, I couldn’t decide on this for a long time, because earlier my usual atmosphere was office environment and computers, moreover in the Ministry of Health. Nevertheless, I got the rights to control the truck and, having suffered a little more, I still got a truck driver in one firm in Chicago“- says Sergey.

Already today, having experience in the truck environment, Sergey understands that he was not lucky with his first job:

«The first company, where I settled, entrusted us to transport the heaviest loads that no one else undertook to carry. I constantly felt like a lifeguard. Another feature of this company was punishment and reproaches from the authorities for things that did not depend on drivers, for example, the delivery delay due to snow drifts on the roads or traffic jams. Besides that, I almost could not get home to Orlando. The leaders told me that no one wants to send cargo from there, and therefore our trucks did not go there. As a result, because of work, I just could not be at home.“- says the driver.

Perceptible difference

And then everything changed - Sergey changed the company and realized how significant the difference could be.

«First, the Davis cargo located in Orlando, and it turned out that the traffic there is actually very developed. I often come to my hometown and leave with a load. At first, I could not believe that this happens. There are almost no problems with clients here either. 70-80% of the cargo we carry is Amazon, UPS and other serious firms. They are supported by professional dispatchers in 24 / 7 mode, their attitude is always polite and friendly. In general, when a serious, large company cooperates with other large companies, the level of quality and attitude is felt immediately.", - says Sergey.

Impression of America

Sergey says: thanks to his work, he repeatedly passed America from edge to edge, visited all states and clearly formed an opinion, where he would like to live, where he would prefer to go to rest, and which states attract him less.

«Choosing a place of residence for each person is individual, and it all depends on what you want from life. For lovers of vanity, hard work and rich life, the West or East Coast, especially New York, is suitable. But there you need to prepare for traffic jams or for a big rent for housing. Chicago and Illinois are generally known for their abundance of trucks. In terms of roads, I like Florida most of all - the tracks are flat, spacious, in three lanes. For lovers of amusement parks at a reasonable price, especially for children, Orlando will suit you. But in the middle of America there is a certain desolation, on the way there are abandoned cities", - says Sergey.

A happy person risks, lives, loves and is loved, and this is entirely about Sergey. He does not cease to thank the fate that gave him a new country and profession. Now Sergey Filipenko is preparing for obtaining American citizenship and plans to learn as a hobby as a pilot.
