Since July 1, Russians will not be able to buy real estate in many areas of Florida
Russians and citizens of Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria will be prohibited from buying real estate in some areas of Florida from July 1. They want to approve a similar measure regarding Russian citizens in Texas. This has caused alarm among civil liberties advocates - they fear that this is the first step towards legal recognition of discrimination based on nationality, writes The Intercept.
On May 8, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law that prohibits citizens of Russia and certain other countries from buying land in the state unless they are US citizens or permanent residents.
Under Law No. 264, foreign investors from "problem countries", including Russia, are prohibited from buying agricultural land in the state, as well as real estate within 16 km of military installations and critical infrastructure.

The law defines “critical infrastructure” quite broadly and includes seaports, airports, chemical manufacturing plants, power plants, water treatment plants and gas plants. Anyone who knowingly sells such properties to individuals or entities from "problem countries" is subject to state penalties.
Law #264 will go into effect in Florida on July 1st.
A ban on the purchase of real estate by Russians is possible in Texas
Texas Bill 147 proposes to ban the purchase of "real estate" by citizens of Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, even if they are legally in the US on certain visas. The bill defines "real estate" as "agricultural land, a mine or quarry, a mineral deposit, or a forest."
