Russian-speaking school principal in Brooklyn dismissed for not reporting the police about sexual abuse at school
In a school that helps immigrants get schooling, two high school students were arrested for sexual abuse in the Village Academy school locker room.
Suspect 17-year-old Santosh Bonito and an 15-year-old boy, whose name is not reported, were arrested this month in connection with the November 2017 attack.
School principal Marina Vinitskaya was fired from her job shortly after her arrest for not reporting violence at school.
On November 3, a gang of hooligans stormed into the school locker room, they ran to the 14-year-old victim, chanting “New Friday! New Friday. This is stated in the police statement.
According to the police, the older boys grabbed the victim by the genitals through the clothes and then tried to cuddle up to their buttocks.
When the victim told the school authorities, Bonito and other suspects were removed from school.
But the director and other leaders did not contact the police, and the mother of the victim herself had to call the police.
A few days later, Director Vinitskaya was sent to the infamous “soft-walled room” of the Department of Education. There, teachers under investigation provide daily, monthly reports while the investigation lasts.
Bonito was arrested on April 12. He was charged with inhuman violent touch, for which he could face up to a year in prison.
The second juvenile suspect was arrested on Monday.
He visited Village academylocated in East Flatbush in Brooklyn and has about 730 students.
The public school is known for helping children of new arrivals to get an education.
Many children speak Haitian, French, Arabic and Spanish.
A nonprofit school review site in New York adds that Village academy "Children complain about the lack of security in the locker rooms."
