Russian and Uzbek arrested in Florida for election fraud

A Russian citizen and an Uzbek citizen living in Florida have been arrested on suspicion of election fraud in Pinellas County, Florida, the official website reports. Department of Justice.

According to court documents, Dmitry Shushlebin, a 45-year-old Russian citizen of Miami Beach, and Sanjar Djamilov, a 33-year-old Uzbek citizen of St. Petersburg, Florida, conspired to submit 132 fraudulent voter registration applications to the Pinellas County Board of Elections.

This occurred in February and March 2023. The applications were submitted under false names. Each envelope had the same typographical error. The applications also contained duplicate birth dates, addresses, and nearly consecutive Social Security numbers. Change of address forms were also filed with the U.S. Postal Service to reroute mail to the addresses listed on the fraudulent applications, three locations that Shushlebin and Dzhamilov allegedly controlled.

Shushlebin and Dzhamilov are charged with conspiring to file fraudulent voter registration applications and providing false information when registering to vote. If convicted, each faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the FBI, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The case began after a referral from the Florida Department of State, Election Crimes and Security Division.
