Russian woman killed her 10-year-old son: the court sentenced her to compulsory treatment

On February 11, London's Central Criminal Court sentenced Russian woman Olga Freeman to compulsory treatment for the murder of her son Dylan. Freeman did not cope with depression, as well as with the deteriorating condition of the child during the pandemic and killed the boy. The edition told in more detail with the BBC.

The court recognized this murder as one of those extremely rare cases when, under pressure from circumstances, a parent, without controlling himself, abuses a child.

The incident took place on August 16, 2020 in the Acton area (London). Olga Arian, a 40-year-old Russian woman, came to the police station and confessed to the murder of her 10-year-old son.

The woman was detained, the police drove to her house in Cumberland Park. There they found the boy's body. He was strangled.

Olga is the ex-wife of 58-year-old famous photographer Dean Freeman.

He is the author of photographs on the first albums of The Beatles, worked with George Michael, footballer David Beckham and the Spice Girls. Tabloids claim that the couple divorced a few years ago.

In 2010, the couple had a son, Dylan. The boy was diagnosed from birth with an autism spectrum disorder and Cohen's syndrome - a very rare genetic disease, leading, in particular, to obesity and bone deformity.

Pandemic

Dylan was never able to learn to speak normally and moved in a wheelchair.

Throughout his life, he needed and received special care: the boy went to a special educational institution, and social workers additionally worked with him.

But it all ended with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The school closed, and there was no help from social services either.

Dean Freeman remained in quarantine in Barcelona, ​​while Olga Freeman and Dylan stayed in London. And gradually she stopped coping with the situation. Dylan's condition worsened when he was left without communication with peers and educators. The boy became more restless, could not stay in one place and almost did not sleep, screamed all night.

The coroner's office found that Olga Freeman had severe depression and other mental disorders as early as the summer of 2020. She turned to social services for help, but they could not help in the face of a lockdown.

A week before the fateful day, Freeman said that "the world needs a messiah" to save him from the coronavirus, and the day before the murder of her son, she booked two tickets to Tel Aviv, but never used them: on August 16, the would-be mother gave Dylan sleeping pills and strangled him with a pillow.

“Olga Freeman loved and cared for Dylan for so many years. But the tension and pressure associated with his condition grew, and her mental strength fell, and this led to such a tragic outcome,” said the representative of the state prosecution, Christine Katsouris, in court.

During the preliminary and judicial investigation, Olga Freeman was in a special medical institution and gave testimony from there via video link. She pleaded guilty unconditionally.

“You did what you did, but you were in the grip of a serious illness. You remain sick,” the judge said when announcing the verdict. “This is one of the rarest cases where a desperate parent commits violence against a beloved child, completely out of his mind.”

How long Olga Freeman will have to stay in the hospital will be decided by the court, based on the opinion of the doctors.
