The Russians called the United States and Ukraine the most unfriendly countries in relation to the Russian Federation

According to Russians, the United States (67%) and Ukraine (53%) are the most unfriendly countries in relation to Russia.

The source of these data was the results of a survey of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), published on October 28, writes Ukrainian Truth.

“Russia has the most tense relations with the United States (67%), but this share decreased by 8 percentage points. comparing with the previous year. On the contrary, the number of those who consider Russia’s relations with Ukraine to be strained has increased (53% in 2019, and 39% in 2018). The TOP-3 of countries unfriendly to Russia, according to Russians, is completed by Great Britain (25%, in 2018 - 33%),” it is noted on the VTsIOM website.

The respondents named China, Belarus and Kazakhstan as the most friendly Russia.

“According to the survey, China is in first place in the list of countries with which Russia has established strong, friendly relations (45%, in 2018 - 50%). Also included in the TOP-3 are Belarus (30%, in 2018 - 20%) and Kazakhstan (21%, in 2018 - 15%). By 5 p.p. Compared to last year, the share of those who consider friendly relations between Russia and Syria has decreased (13%). Compared to 2018 by 7 p.p. the share of those who consider friendly relations with France (10%) increased by 4 p.p. — with Germany (9%),” according to the official survey data.

53% of respondents consider the United States of America to be the key potential source of a military threat to Russia.

“According to the survey, the US remains the key potential source of a military threat to Russia, although the share of those who hold this opinion has decreased significantly compared to the January measurement (53%, in January 2019 - 65%). The TOP 3 countries from which a threat may come, according to Russians, also include Ukraine (26%, 19 percentage points less than at the beginning of the year) and China (7%, 4 percentage points less than at the beginning of the year) compared with January),” says the VTsIOM website.

At the same time, the share of Russians admitting the threat of a military attack on Russia amounted to 31%, which is 12% lower than in December 2018.

“Previously, the maximum level of expectation of a military threat was recorded in April 2018 - 50%. This was probably affected by new anti-Russian sanctions, as well as the conflict with the UK over the Skripal case. The share of those who believe that there is no threat of a military attack on Russia has grown from 53% at the end of 2018 to 61% this year. More often than others, young people aged 18-24 (75%) and 25-34 years old (62%) are convinced that there is no threat,” the report noted.

The survey was conducted 22 August 2019 among 1600 respondents older than 18 years by telephone interview. For a sample, the maximum error size with probability 95% does not exceed 2,5%.
