Russians will be obliged to report marriages and birth of children abroad

The Ministry of Finance proposed to oblige Russians to inform the authorities about their marriages registered abroad. The same goes for divorces. In addition, the Ministry of Finance wants Russian citizens to report on children who were born abroad.

Information must be provided within a month after receiving documents in a foreign country. It is not yet known whether penalties will be introduced for the absence of a report.

The data will be stored in the database of the Federal Tax Service, but other agencies will also have access to it, including the Pension Fund. The initiative of the Ministry of Finance is not related to the desire of the authorities to increase tax collections, but the statements of citizens will help to better count the population.

The amendment is planned to be made to the bill on the creation in Russia of a single register of data, already approved by the State Duma in the first reading.
