Russia announces the interception of two American reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea

At the official Facebook page The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on August 5, a Russian fighter jet intercepted two US reconnaissance aircraft over neutral Black Sea waters.

On the page of the Ministry of Defense on the social network, a statement was published that on August 5, 2020, two air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation were detected by Russian airspace control over the neutral waters of the Black Sea.

To intercept targets, a Su-27 fighter from the air defense (air defense) forces of the Southern Military District was raised into the air.

The Defense Ministry said that the crew of the Russian fighter consistently approached the air targets to a safe distance and identified them as the US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and the US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft.

It also says that after American reconnaissance aircraft turned away from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter “safely returned to its home airfield.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense states that the entire flight of the Russian Su-27 aircraft took place “strictly in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace and violation of the state border of the Russian Federation by American reconnaissance aircraft was not allowed.”
