Russia has banned the entry of dozens of high-ranking Americans: now Biden is not allowed in Moscow, but Trump is still allowed

The Russian Foreign Ministry on May 21 released an updated list of nearly 1000 Americans who are permanently banned from entering the country, in a largely symbolic response to heavy sanctions imposed by Western countries over Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. CNBC.

Biden has already been banned from visiting Russia since mid-March, as have Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and General of the Army Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

But the updated list now includes Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as Biden's scandal-ridden son Hunter Biden, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state.

The list also includes actor Morgan Freeman and billionaire investor George Soros. Soros' philanthropic support for liberal causes and groups in the former Soviet bloc has made him a danger to both Russia and right-wing conspiracy theorists.

Jen Psaki, who until this month was Biden's White House press secretary, posted a sarcastic tweet on the evening of May 21 about the list: "I think we'll have to cancel our August family trip to Moscow..."

Trump was not on the list of 963 banned Americans.

For years, Trump has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and criticized the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election, which ended in Trump's victory over Democratic rival Clinton.

In 2019, Trump was impeached for refusing congressional military aid to Ukraine while simultaneously pressuring that country's then-president-elect, Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump wanted to announce an investigation into Joe Biden, who at the time was the leading Democratic candidate for the White House. Trump was acquitted after a Senate trial.

Former President Barack Obama and Trump Vice President Mike Pence are also not on the list, but Pence's brother, Rep. Greg Pence, of Indiana, is denied entry. So did Greg Pence's 211 Republican colleagues in the House and Senate, and 224 Democratic members in both houses of Congress.

The list of banned members of the Republican Party included two ardent supporters of Republican Trump - Matt Goetz of Florida and Paul Gosar of Arizona. Also on the list are two members of the Democratic House of Representatives whose sharply progressive political stance is anathema in the Trump world: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

And Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-California, this week Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco banned communion because of her support for abortion rights.

In a statement released by the Russian state news agency RIA, the Foreign Ministry said that "Russian counter-sanctions are forced and aimed at forcing the ruling American regime to change its behavior" and recognize "new geopolitical realities." The ministry also accused the US of trying to impose a neo-colonial "rules-based world order" on the rest of the world.

The ministry said that the "hostile actions" taken by the US government "will backfire on the United States itself" and "they will continue to be properly rebuffed."

Russia has also barred hundreds of Canadians from entering the country, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Christa Freeland, as well as hundreds of members of the United Kingdom's parliament.
