Russia in second place in the world for information leakage

Russia in the first half of the year 2015, ranked second in the world in the number of leaks of confidential information on the Internet.

In the six months of 2015 of the year, the study says, 59 recorded cases of leakage of confidential information from Russian companies and government organizations.

MTS, VTB-24, RZD, SOGAZ, as well as Apple, Google, Lenovo, Microsoft and others are among the companies affected by leaks over the past six months. Ninety percent of leaks are related to the disclosure of personal data. During the study period, more than 262 million personal data records, including billing information, were compromised.

In 65, the percentage of cases in the data leak was the fault of the employee of the affected organization, usually a lower or middle level manager, the authors of the study indicate. The proportion of hacker attacks was 32 percent of the total number of incidents, but these attacks are the most effective, they stressed.

In total, in the first half of 2015 of the year, 723 recorded cases of leakage of confidential information, which is 10 percent more than the number of leaks for the same period of 2014 of the year.

In late August, the head of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev demanded punish officials using Google and Yahoo! and whatsapp messenger. Also in late August, it became known that government officials in the Moscow Region would be banned from using foreign cloud services and messaging systems for security reasons.
