Russia is preparing the expulsion of 30 US diplomats and the arrest of diplomatic property

Moscow can go to extreme measures on the question of the withdrawal of Russian diplomatic property in the United States.

By such measures, the Russian side was prompted by the decision of Washington not to return the embassy property, which has been under arrest since last December. This issue was not resolved at the last talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Hamburg.

About the fact that Washington does not intend to remove the arrest from Russia's diplomatic property in the United States, a high-ranking source in Smolensk Square told Izvestia at the end of last week.

After the talks between the leaders of the two countries at the G20 summit, where the topic of diplomatic property was also raised, it became clear that the States had not submitted a plan to resolve the crisis.

The decision of the United States, according to the source, forces Russia to respond mirror - to send American diplomats working in Russia to 30 and impose retaliatory sanctions on US property in Russia.

At the same time, Moscow notes that they would not like to take such measures, but unfriendly actions of Washington cannot remain unanswered.

“There is a preliminary agreement on holding a meeting in St. Petersburg between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and US First Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Shannon. If a compromise is not found there, we will have to take such measures, ”the source of Izvestia said in the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, another interlocutor of "Izvestia" in Russian diplomatic circles noted that as a mirror measures, the US-owned dacha in Serebryanny Bor and storage space in Moscow could be arrested, while the residence of the US ambassador and the British Embassy St. Petersburg will not touch.

Andrei Klimov, deputy head of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee, told Izvestia that Russia already waited six months for the new administration to settle the diplomatic crisis, realizing that “it was Obama’s desire to spoil the beginning of Trump’s presidency.”

“But, unfortunately, for half a year Trump either could not, or did not consider it important to correct the situation. And now we have to draw a line and answer mirror. This is not our demonstration of the negative attitude towards the Trump administration, it’s just evidence that Russia is a respected state, towards which you must show respect. At the same time, it is necessary to observe the protocol, etiquette and international norms - there can be no other way to communicate with Russia, ”the senator concluded.

Recall that the administration of US President Barack Obama at the end of December 2016 introduced sanctions against 9 of Russian institutions, companies and individuals, including the GRU and the FSB, for “interference with elections” and “pressure on American diplomats” working in Russia.

Also USA closed access to two residential complexes - the so-called suburban "dachas" of the Russian Permanent Mission in New York and the embassies in Washington, which are Russian diplomatic property. In addition, non grata persons were are announced 35 Russian diplomats.
