Russian startup developed 3D scanner to create copies of people

In Russia, the resident firm of the Skolkovo Foundation Texel has created a complex for the color scanning of people that has no analogues in the world, writes Izvestia.ru.

Russian development allows you to create 3D-model of a person for a variety of applications - virtual fitting clothes, making souvenir figurines, figure identification, etc. Experts believe that in a few years many people will get 3D-models of their bodies for various purposes.

Worldwide retailing goes online. For example, in the US, visits to shopping centers have decreased several times in recent years. Last year alone, 24, a major American brand, closed down hundreds of stores.

Resident Skolkovo - Texel company specializes in creating three-dimensional models of people. Having passed the scanning procedure once, a person receives an absolutely exact electronic model of his body. It can be used, for example, for trying on clothes in online stores. At the same time, neural networks and artificial intelligence will make it possible to develop recommendations on the choice of style, color, combination of clothing items depending on the type of figure.

The 3D scanner, created in the framework of the Texel project, is a rotating frame with a height of human height. It is equipped with sensors-sensors and software developed by Russian specialists. The frame wraps around the person in 30 seconds, the system processes the data for about a minute - and the 3D avatar is ready.

According to project manager Maxim Fedyukov, the practice that has taken shape in the clothing industry — mass production of the same model — will be a thing of the past in the coming years. It will be replaced by the individual tailoring of each item for a specific person with the help of his avatar and virtual fitting room. The International Commission for Standardization in this area, which includes Maxim Fedyukov, last year approved the format for presenting the 3D model of the human body. Next in line is a similar design for clothing. After the adoption of these standards, the light industry of the whole world will be able to begin the transition to individual tailoring using avatars and electronic patterns.

The Texel project has already accumulated a database of more than 60 thousand 3D models of people from different countries. Analysis of this array of information using machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence will allow, according to Maxim Fedyukov, to get away from the need to use 3D scanner. Get a high-quality three-dimensional avatar can be using a smartphone - on their own self-made photographs.

However, the field of application of models of the human body promises to go far beyond the “virtual fitting rooms”. In surgery, for example, avatars will be useful for making prostheses ideally suited to a particular person on an 3D printer. In fitness, it will be possible to automatically create individual programs for the correction of individual muscles and monitor the results of their implementation.
