Russian pianist wins Grammy

Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov won the American Recording Academy Grammy Award in the category “Best Instrumental Solo.”

The announcement of the winners of the 60th anniversary Grammy took place on January 28 in New York.

26-year-old Daniil Trifonov is a laureate of numerous competitions and awards. He received a Grammy for the album Transcendental. In this category, the American pianist Murray Peraia, the British Stephen Isserlis, the Swedish musician Maria Lottberg and the German violinist Frank Peter Zimmerman also claimed the award.

For Trifonov, this is the fourth nomination for the prestigious American award, but the first victory.

Trifonov is not the only Russian musician who distinguished himself at the 60th Grammy Awards.

Russian opera singer Dmitry Hvorostovsky was posthumously nominated for a Grammy Award in the category “Best Classical Solo Album” for his disc “Sviridov: Rus' Set Away.” Canadian opera singer Barbara Hannigan won this category.

In the category “Best Opera Recording” the soloists of the Mariinsky Theater Andrei Serov and Vladimir Felyauer were presented, as well as Aida Garifullina for their performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera “The Golden Cockerel” under the baton of Valery Gergiev, but the winner was the performers of Berg’s opera “Wozzeck” under the direction of the Austrian conductor Hans Graf.

The Grammy Awards are considered one of the most prestigious music awards, especially in the world of popular music. It was established and awarded by the US Recording Academy, more than 13 thousand members of which voted for the winners on the Internet.
