Russian oligarch testified to the investigation of Robert Muller

In the United States, as part of an investigation into the Kremlin’s interference in the American elections, the owner of the Renova group, billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, was interviewed.

Federal agents, acting on behalf of US Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, interviewed in New York Russian businessman Viktor Vekselberg, chairman of the board of directors of the Renova group, president of the Skolkovo Foundation and a person on the American sanctions list. Sources reported about the meeting of investigators with Vekselberg The New York Times, writes NewsRu.

According to the newspaper, Vekselberg was stopped about two months ago when he got off the ramp of a private plane in New York. The publication does not provide information about what kind of questions asked the Russian entrepreneur. The NYT, however, believes that the questions concerned the presence of Vekselberg at the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as president of the United States in January 2017.

According to the publication, Vekselberg got to Trump's inauguration thanks to his cousin and business partner Andrew Intrater, who lives in New York and donated thousands of dollars to the inaugural foundation of 250. Intrater heads the company Columbus nova, engaged in investment management and providing services, as stated by the NYT, to the Renova group. As indicated in the publication, Mueller's subordinates interviewed Intrater, but there are no signs that he is suspected of anything illegal.

The newspaper also admits that the US Special Prosecutor was interested in the business operations of Vekselberg in Cyprus. We are talking about the times when the company, controlled by a Russian entrepreneur, was the largest shareholder of the Bank of Cyprus. As stated in the publication, in 2014, the current US Treasury Secretary Wilbur Ross, being at the head of a group of investors from states and other countries, bought shares of this bank for about 400 million euros. After that, he became one of the deputy chairmen of the bank’s board of directors.

NYT interlocutors claim that Vekselberg is not suspected of any illegal actions, TASS reports.

Earlier, CNN television claimed that Special Prosecutor Muller had taken action against at least three representatives of Russian big business. Their names were not called. First, Muller ordered to detain a wealthy Russian who arrived in a private plane at an airport in New York to inspect electronic devices. This section is similar to the NYT report regarding Vekselberg. Secondly, with the sanction of the US special prosecutor, another Russian was also stopped during a recent trip to the United States. In this case, there is no information whether he was subjected to a personal search, the broadcasting company specified. In addition, Muller’s subordinates sent a kind of informal voluntary document and request for a conversation to a third Russian oligarch, who, however, has not recently been announced in the United States.

Muller launched an investigation in May 2017. At the moment, they have been charged with 19 individuals, including 5 Americans, 13 Russians and 1 Dutchmen. Trump and his assistants repeatedly rejected suspicions of any unlawful contacts with Russian officials during the election campaign of 2016. Moscow has also denied allegations of attempts to influence the course of elections in the United States many times.
