Russian hackers stole the data of the new part of STALKER and are now blackmailing Ukrainian owners

Russian hackers hacked into the Discord server of the developers of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl and stole 30 GB of data. Now the criminals are blackmailing the Ukrainian company GSC Game World. TheVillage.

The data of the initial version of the game from mid-2019 was leaked to the network, including a description of the plot, concept art, and a map of the virtual world. The Russians demand to rethink the attitude towards the players from Belarus and Russia, leave the Russian voice acting and reject the “politicization”.

Russian hackers promise to leak all 30 GB of data if their conditions are not met by March 15. GSC Game World confirmed the hacker attack and urged fans of the game series not to distribute leaked materials and wait for the release of Heart of Chornobyl.

“We cannot be intimidated by such actions. Blackmail too. Our principled position on supporting Ukraine does not change,” the creators of the video game assured.

GSC Game World announced a sequel to STALKER back in 2010. However, the project was subsequently canceled, and most of the team moved to another studio. The first part of STALKER was released in 2007. It is partly based on the Strugatsky brothers' story Roadside Picnic. After the original game, subtitled “Shadow of Chernobyl,” two more expansions were released: STALKER: Clear Sky and STALKER: Call of Pripyat.

In December 2022, GSC Game World showed the first gameplay trailer for the new part of STALKER. The game will be released in 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X/S and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the first day of release.

One of the developers of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, 38-year-old game designer Vladimir Yezhov, died on December 22 in the battles near Bakhmut. He is survived by two minor sons.
