Relatives of Galina Hutchins from Ukraine sued Alec Baldwin
The death of Galina Hutchins, the cameraman shot dead by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust, still has legal implications. Baldwin was formally charged with manslaughter by New Mexico prosecutors. Now he faces another lawsuit from the Hutchins family, this time from her parents Anatoly Androsovich and Olga Solovey, as well as sister Svetlana Zemko. Writes about it av club.
The new lawsuit names Baldwin, assistant director David Halls, gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Rust Movie Productions, LLC as defendants.
Charges against them include injury, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The statement alleges that safety protocols on set were "ignored" and "the actions taken were contrary to all industry norms." Baldwin is accused of playing "Russian roulette with a loaded gun without checking it and getting the gunsmith to do it".

The statement reads: “The fact that live ammunition was allowed on set, that weapons and ammunition were left unattended, that the weapon in question was handed over to Alec Baldwin by an assistant director who had nothing to do with it, and that safety protocols were not made public and were completely ignored, combined with the fact that the scene in question did not require a shot at all, makes this incident more than a coincidence."
Baldwin settled a previous lawsuit with Hutchins' husband, Matthew Hutchins, in October 2022.
“We are now representing other family members,” said attorney Gloria Allred. “And they didn’t get any settlement.” Baldwin didn't contact them to simply say he was sorry. We want accountability and justice."

Allred said that Hutchins provided financial support to her family, which means that "in addition to the tragedy, they must try to cope with the loss of funding while living in Ukraine at the height of the war."
Hutchins' mother is a nurse treating wounded soldiers outside of Kyiv, and her brother-in-law is currently fighting in the war.
Svetlana Zemko emphasized: “Losing my sister was a terrible experience and one of the biggest losses of my life. And it is even more devastating to see the utter suffering of our parents and how their health has deteriorated dramatically. Therefore, I think that it is unacceptable to leave this unpunished.”
