Cancer McCain relatives don't want to see Trump at the funeral

Relatives of the patient with cancer of the brain of Republican Senator John McCain decided in the event of an unfavorable outcome of the disease the politician did not call the current US President Donald Trump to his funeral.

Close senators sent a message to the White House that they didn’t want to see Trump at McCain’s funeral, while at the same time they intend to invite Vice President Michael Pence to the ceremony, reports The New York Times.

81-year-old John McCain now spends most of his time at his ranch in Arizona, where he fights a brain tumor that 2017 has learned about in the summer. The politician is engaged in writing memoirs and meets with friends and colleagues, discussing with them political issues, including the candidacy of who should take his seat in the Senate after his resignation or death.

McCain’s success in fighting the disease can play a decisive role in whether Republicans retain their majority in the Senate, which is now secured by a margin of only one seat. If the senator dies or resigns before the end of May, then most likely special elections will be held in his place this fall. But, according to the laws of Arizona, which he represents in the Senate, if he remains in office until June, then the election of a new person to his place will not be until 2020. The second option is more preferable for Republicans because of the growing popularity of the Democratic Party this year.

The issue of succession to McCain's seat is a topic of such intense debate that it has even prompted jokes among Republicans that Washington lawyers know Arizona election law better than any lawyer in the state itself. McCain's friends and allies are determined to hold on to his seat not only for political reasons, but also to reward him in his final days with the respect he deserves for his many years in politics.

McCain does not give interviews, as much as possible enjoying nature at the ranch, where his spouse supports him. A frequent guest at home is the former vice president, member of the Democratic Party and longtime friend of McCain, Joe Biden.

But with McCain, the nominee of his own party, the current president, Donald Trump, didn’t work out since the beginning of the election campaign.

In particular, the future president in 2015 stated that he did not respect people who were captured. During the Vietnam War, McCain spent five years as a prisoner of the North Vietnamese, including two years in solitary confinement.

“I love those people who are not taken prisoner,” Trump said.
