“Born in Jerusalem, but not in Israel” - American court

The US Supreme Court ruled on Monday that American citizens born in Jerusalem do not have the right to enter Israel, as the country of birth, into questionnaires when applying for a passport.

According to the report, the decision was made by a majority of six judges against three.

Thus, the court rejected the appeal of members of the Jerusalem family, who wanted to indicate in their passport that they were born in Israel.

The judges rejected the petition on the grounds that only "the President of the United States has the sole and exclusive right" to determine the status of Jerusalem as a city in Israel.

As noted in the message, the Obama administration initially opposed the petition of the Israeli family.

One of Barack Obama's aides said that "if the appeal is approved, it will undermine the US position in the Middle East as an objective peacemaker."
