Robbie Williams explained why he sang about Russians

British musician Robbie Williams said that he is ready for offers from oligarchs to perform at bar mitzvahs, weddings and parties after he released the song Party Like a Russian. He spoke about this in an interview with Dozhd.

Robbie Wilms told how this song appeared:

“You see, I have already recorded 12 studio albums. During all this time, I wrote 500-600 finished songs, and about 200-300 were left unfinished. To be honest, I started to run out of steam. So what? I'm already exhausted. But how many times can you sing about how I’m neurotic, that everything is bad in my life, or “love me baby, I’m such a fool,” or about how I love women. You can walk to the well for a long time, but sooner or later the well will dry up. And so that day I arrived at the studio, and Guy Chambers, who I work with, said: “I came up with the name of the song.” He had not yet come up with the text, only the title - “Hang out like a Russian!” I immediately thought there were a million options here. And I realized that a fun and creative day was ahead at the studio. A million different options could have been developed from this, but in the end we stuck with the original one. For me this song is akin to Monty Python. But believe me, this is not what I think about Russia as a whole.”

Robbie Williams announced his readiness to speak at parties at the Russian oligarchs.

“I’m open to any offers to come and sing for people. Robbie Williams cares about his management,” the singer said.

In turn, The Times newspaper reports that in 2014, Williams spoke at a New Year's dinner for 100 people in Moscow, where people "from the inner circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin" were present.

According to the publication, in the list of guests was presidential aide Vladislav Surkov. The Times notes that the performance of the British musician was paid for by Roman Abramovich.

At the end of September, Robbie Williams released a video for the song Party Like A Russian (“Have fun like a Russian”). Williams sings about a rich Russian who is “diminishing the money of an entire nation,” building his own space station, having a car that he “put in a plane,” “a plane in a boat,” and a boat taking up “half of the Western Hemisphere.” In the video, the singer dances with ballerinas in an expensive mansion and shouts “Thank you!”
