Retailers in the United States raise wages and offer benefits because of a shortage of workers
US retailers are trying to fill jobs for the holiday season, but since there are not enough volunteers, companies offer additional benefits to attract employees.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of open jobs has generally exceeded the number of people hired from March to June of the 2018 year.
Despite record-breaking low unemployment and rising wages, the lack of workers forced retailers to offer even higher wages and a variety of additional benefits, such as, for example, paid leave available to part-time employees, etc.
Even though many US retailers pay 12 dollars per hour, Costco pays 20 dollars per hour and offers additional benefits.
Macy's has announced plans to hire seasonal 80 000 seasonal workers for Macy's and Bloomingdale stores, as well as order centers. The retail giant expects the holiday season to bring a large number of buyers to the network.
