California Restaurants Raise Climate Change Prices
In January, some California restaurants added a 1% surcharge to customer accounts as an additional measure to combat climate change. Fox Business.
The money will be used to finance Restore California, a restaurant and farmer association run by the not-for-profit Zero Foodprint. This association, according to its statement, will finance food producers who adhere to environmentally friendly technologies.

“Restore California is moving acres of farmland from extractive to renewable, just like utilities are improving their grid by financing renewable energy projects,” said Karen Leibovitz, executive director of Zero Foodprint, in a press release.
This program can quickly raise $ 10 million. It is estimated that a 1 percent premium in the California restaurant industry, with a profit of about $ 100 billion, can bring significant revenue in the first year.
The Golden Gate Restaurant Association has already introduced a surcharge for SFGATE, and Atelier Crenn, Benu and Chez Panisse add this to the bill.
And how did customers react to this?
“Are you kidding?” Wrote one Twitter user.
“It looks like California has already become the country with the highest taxes,” complained another.
California sales tax now stands at 7,25%.
Representatives of Chinese Food in San Francisco said they decided to abandon this allowance after complaints from a large number of visitors, choosing instead to make a donation directly to Restore California.
