American rapper faces deportation from the US
The lawyers stressed that the musician expects a special visa in the status of a victim of crime.
US immigration and customs officers released on bail 26-year-old rapper and Grammy nominee Shia Bin Abraham-Joseph, known as 21 Savage. This was reported by a group of lawyers hired by a musician. Nine days have passed since the detention of 21 Savage.
The rapper's attorneys passed his application to fans. The musician thanked everyone for their support and noted that although he did not get to the Grammy, he was mentally there.
21 Savage promised to continue to "make music that unites people." He also stressed that he would not forget those who were in custody with him and all those who remain “unjustly imprisoned” in the United States.
A rapper with British citizenship is still facing deportation from the United States. The decision will be made at the hearing, the date of which has not yet been specified. The size of the deposit was not disclosed.
21 Savage detained February 4 in Atlanta on suspicion of illegal stay in the United States. According to the authorities, the Briton legally arrived in the country in 2005. A year later, the visa expired, but he remained to live illegally.
The rapper’s lawyers called the court’s attention to the fact that their client was awaiting the consideration of a U-Visa nonimmigrant visa application. Victims of crimes who later assisted in the investigation may claim it. 21 Savage is one of those: on 21's birthday, 6 was shot at him once during a robbery. As noted by The Guardian, the consideration of such statements may take "about ten years" because of the large number of appeals.
The rapper fell into two nominations for the Grammy-2019, but did not win any of them. The name of the arrested musician was mentioned at the ceremony only once: the producer of rapper Childish Gambino did it while receiving the award for the "record of the year".
