Rapper Kanye West called slavery a conscious choice of blacks
American rapper Kanye West expressed in the sense that the enslavement of blacks, which continued in North America for several centuries, can be regarded as a personal choice of slaves, writes Air force.
“When you hear about slavery that lasted 400 years... 400 years? It sounds like a choice,” the artist said in an interview with entertainment website TMZ.
In recent days, Kanye West has attracted a lot of attention with his speeches in support of President Donald Trump.
Most American artists (judging by their public statements) and the majority of African Americans (judging by the results of the 2016 elections of the year and subsequent polls) to Trump are treated to varying degrees negatively.
Africans were forcibly imported into North America, both in the colonial period and after the proclamation of independence by the United States during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and were sold as slaves.
From the following rather confusing explanations of West, one can conclude that he spoke of the psychological consequences of slavery with which African Americans still live.
“We are mentally in prison. I prefer the word “prison” because slavery relates too directly to the idea of black people. Just as the Holocaust is about Jews, slavery is about black people,” he said.
Already during the online broadcast, the rapper and husband of reality TV star Kim Kardashian met with an angry rebuke from one of TMZ's African-American employees, Van Lathan. He said that Kanye West's words expose a "lack of thought."
“You have the right to believe what you want, but there are facts, and behind everything you just said, there are consequences in the real world, in real life,” Latan said to him. “We have to deal with the marginalization caused by 400 years of slavery, and you said that this is a choice for our people.”
“I am amazed, brother, and it hurts me incredibly when I see that you have turned into something that seems unreal to me,” the journalist added.
Also during the interview, West again spoke warmly of Trump, calling him “my baby” and saying that the American president is “one of the rap world’s favorite people.”

In social networks, the words of Kanye West again created a furor.
A few days ago, the rapper released a song justifying his position on Trump, who, in his words, “fights for the people.”
