Rating of the most common deadly diseases in different states of the USA

American doctors have found out what most people in the United States get sick and die from. JAMA researchers examined causes of death across the country and compiled a list of the most common diseases. These are the diseases Americans most often die from. However, there is an interesting feature - in different parts of the United States, even in different counties of the same state, completely different diseases are leading causes of death.

For example, heart problems are leading among the causes of death for residents of the Mississippi River area. Violent deaths most often occur in the western states. And the leaders in the number of deaths from mental illness and substance abuse were Kentucky and West Virginia.

Experts explained one of the reasons for this peculiar distribution. “Different states have different levels of medicine; in some places there is access to high-tech equipment, in others there is not. This is one of the reasons why we see such differences in causes of death,” says one of the study authors, Dr. Christopher Murray, professor and director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.

Scientists have analyzed 80 for millions of deaths in various states since the 1980 year.

Oncological diseases

One of the conclusions that experts made was the high incidence of cancer. Particularly high mortality rates are observed along the southern Mississippi River, Kentucky and West Virginia. By contrast, Idaho and Wyoming have cancer rates below the national average.

Cardiovascular diseases

Experts note that overall, the rate of cardiovascular disease has decreased by 30% over the past 50 years. However, high mortality rates continue to be observed in the southern states of Alabama, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Louisiana.

Diabetes and urinary tract diseases

Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi are the leaders in the number of deaths from these diseases.

Neurological diseases

The most serious situation with neurological diseases is in Texas, as well as in Oklahoma and Alabama.

Conflict Suicides and Deaths

Here lead Alaska, North and South Dakota. In these states, the list is headed by the death rate due to suicide and homicide.

The report's authors believe that this study will help medical professionals to understand the most acute problems of the residents of each state and analyze what kind of medical care the residents of a particular state need.
