Forbes has published a ranking of the world's richest people in 2024

ForbesUSA published the 38th world ranking of dollar billionaires. Most of them live in the USA.

There are now more billionaires than ever: 2781 in total. That's 141 more than last year and 26 more than in 2021.

They have become much richer - their combined wealth is $14,2 trillion, up $2 trillion from 2023.

Two-thirds of those on the list are worth more than they were a year ago, and only a quarter are poorer. The US now boasts a record 813 billionaires with a total wealth of $5,7 trillion.

China remains in second place with 473 billionaires, whose combined wealth is $1,7 trillion. India, with 200 billionaires, ranks third.

In the lead rating for the second year in a row, President and CEO of the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group of companies, Bernard Arnault. Within a year, he became $22 billion richer, and his fortune is now estimated at $233 billion.

Second and third places, like a year ago, are shared by Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, respectively. Mark Zuckerberg returned to the top 10 this year.

The owner of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, topped the ranking in 2022, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos led the ranking of the richest for four years in a row until 2022. Just like last year, Musk beat Bezos: he earned $1 billion more.

The return of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to the top 10 was unexpected. During the year, he earned more than $100 billion and took 4th place (16th last year).

There is only one woman in this year's top 20: Françoise Bettencourt-Myers. The fortune of the vice-chairman of the L'Oréal cosmetics empire increased slightly - to $99,5 billion, but secured 15th place and confirmed the status of the richest woman on the planet.

But one of the heirs of Sam Walton, the founder of the Walmart empire, Alice Walton left the top, leaving behind her brothers, who took 18th and 19th places. Charles and Julia Koch left the top 20.
