Flight to nowhere: the plane circled over the ocean for several hours and came back

Hawaiian Airlines flight from San José to Honolulu circled over the ocean for several hours before returning to Mineta San José International Airport.

Passengers were disappointed that they had to spend 3,5 hours and come back.

The airline referred to technical problems.

One of the passengers told KPIX that the trouble began before the flight of the aircraft. Departure was scheduled for 9: 10, but delayed for 2 hours. All this time, the crew tried to repair the generator.

As a result, Boeing 767 flew from San Jose airport to 11: 21 am, according to Hawaiian Airlines. But after 30 minutes of flight, the pilot reported a repeated breakdown of the generator.

“So we had to turn around and go back to San Jose and fly around for four hours to burn off fuel,” said Kane Wood, one of the flight's passengers.

Onboard was a 241 passenger who rebooked their flights the next day.

This is not the first such case. In February of this year, United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Hawaii circled 4 hours over the Pacific Ocean before returning to San Francisco.
