Hawaiian Airlines flight hit by severe turbulence: 7 injured

On June 30, seven people were injured on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu, Hawaii to Sydney, Australia. The plane encountered severe turbulence CNN.

The turbulence occurred about five hours after the plane took off from Honolulu on the afternoon of June 30, a Hawaiian Airlines spokesman said. The 11-hour flight landed in Sydney, and airport medical staff treated the injured passengers and crew.

According to the airline, three of the wounded were released after being examined at the scene, four more were taken for further treatment. Among the four were one passenger and three flight attendants.

Three flight attendants have since been allowed home from the hospital, the spokesman said.

“Our immediate priority is to continue to care for our passengers and crew affected by this turbulence, and we thank the Sydney Airport Emergency Response Team for their prompt assistance,” the airline said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.

The incident comes just months after severe turbulence on a Hawaiian Airlines flight injured 36 people flying from Arizona to Honolulu in December. 20 people were sent to emergency departments.

In recent months, there have been several reports of dangerous, and in one case, fatal cases of turbulence. In March, severe turbulence on a private jet killed a former White House official. Just days before, 7 people were taken to hospitals after a commercial flight was hit by severe turbulence.
