Ryabkov did not specify whether the answer could be symmetrical or not.

“After all, it’s not that such a provocation was carried out against Russian citizens, it’s a demonstration of complete disregard for the organization itself, which is located in New York on US territory,” he concluded.

Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that some members of the Russian delegation, who were supposed to participate in the United States in events under the auspices of the UN, did not get a visa for "technical reasons". In particular, the head of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergei Butin, the head of the international committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky and translators were unable to go to New York.

The Foreign Ministry accused the United States of non-fulfillment of direct obligations by the UN, and the head of the department, Sergey Lavrov, called the refusal to issue visas a disgrace.

In an interview with the Kommersant newspaper, he recalled that in 2018, Moscow met Washington halfway and, at the request of its American colleagues, included Senator Ron Johnson, who is on the sanctions list, in the delegation coming to Russia.

American politicians promised to respond in the same way, however, as Lavrov noted, this year in Washington they said that it was “categorically impossible” to issue a visa to any member of the blacklist. The diplomat called it a sad demonstration of “American exceptionalism.”
