Work in IT, national holidays and mutual support: how the Kyrgyz community lives in the USA

I grew up on American films. And when he decided that he would move abroad, he did not even consider any other countries except the United States. I have been living here for almost 10 years.

About life in the USA

A big plus to living in the States: if you have the necessary skills, you can always and easily find a job.

I live in Virginia, I work as a programmer in one of the local insurance companies.

I always wanted to live closer to Washington. There is the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan. In addition, there are many IT-related events taking place in the District of Columbia.

I also like the climate in Virginia. In winter, there is much less snow than in New York.

Most Americans have a lifestyle similar to the Kyrgyz. They get up early, do physical exercises, teach children charity, so that they do not steal and do not offend others.

Local people often donate. Ordinary citizens in the States do this for good reason, just to help someone. I like it. In Kyrgyzstan, common people also help the poor and needy.

About compatriots

Many compatriots live in the USA.

I am glad that in the IT sector there are much more Kyrgyzstanis than there were a few years ago. We often communicate, see each other at conferences, and discuss issues related to the further development of IT communities in the USA and Kyrgyzstan.

Support of compatriots is important abroad. Because we understand each other, discuss the problems associated with our country.

We do not forget national traditions. The older generation celebrates national holidays and follows customs. We always turn to them when we have events.

In different states of the USA, Novruz, Tushoo Kesuu and other holidays are celebrated not only in the family circle, but also at the diaspora level.

We also have a Facebook group, “Kyrgyzstanis in New York.” With it, you can find compatriots in any city in the United States.

How the move affected

I understood one thing: it all depends on you. If something went wrong - you yourself are to blame, do not blame others for the failures. If you have achieved something - this is the result of your efforts.
