Five-year-old girl died due to a misdiagnosis
In England, investigating the causes of death of a five year old girl Elspeth Moore. Investigators believe that the doctor put the wrong diagnosis - appendicitis, which was caused by viral gastroenteritis, writes FOX News.
Moore died a few days after she was first brought to Southampton Children's Hospital. The incident occurred in 2017 year. The girl had diarrhea, fever and a strong heartbeat.
After several days of observation, the doctor allowed the parents to take the child home. Parents recall that after being discharged in the first few days, the child's condition improved, but soon the girl began to suffer again from diarrhea, fever and vomiting.
Parents decided not to leave the child alone and stayed overnight in her room.
“I said, 'I'm going to stay here with you,' and lay down on the floor next to her. “I said, ‘I love you,’ and she said, ‘I love you, daddy,’” the girl’s father recalls.
Soon the father heard that the daughter was suffocating and was not responding. Parents took the child to the hospital, where doctors stated death.
As a result of the proceedings, doctors began to suspect that the doctor had diagnosed appendicitis instead of a stomach infection. Coroner Graeme Short said that the doctor made the correct diagnosis, but he gave parents insufficient guidelines for medical care.
After the incident at the medical facility, new rules for providing home care counseling services were introduced.
