Putin has cut salaries for himself and some civil servants

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which salary cuts by 10 percent for the head of state, the prime minister, and other individuals occupying individual government posts will continue for the 2016 year. Document text published Wednesday, December 2.

Similar changes were made to the decrees on 10-percent reduction in monetary remuneration of employees of the presidential administration, the staff of the Accounts Chamber of Russia and the government staff.

The document on the reduction by 10 of the percentage of the pay of top officials of the country entered into force on March 1 on 2015 and should have been completed on December 31 of this year. The decree was about reducing the salaries of the head of state, the prime minister and his deputies, the heads of federal departments, the ombudsman for Russia, members of the CEC of Russia, the prosecutor general and the chairman of the Investigative Committee.

In December 2014, the head of state also introduced a moratorium on the indexation of the salaries of officials in the Kremlin administration, as well as in the government, the Accounts Chamber and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the document, the annual indexation of salaries based on the level of inflation is suspended from January 1 2015 to January 1 2016. At the same time, as 26 reported on 2015 in November, Russian statistics, over the last year, the salaries of Russian officials grew by an average of four percent.

According to the income statement, in 2014, Putin earned 7,6 million rubles (151,5 thousand dollars), the salary of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was a little over 8 million rubles (160 thousand dollars).
