Putin believes that Navalny could provoke a coup attempt

Russian President Vladimir Putin compared Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny with Ukrainian politician Mikhail Saakashvili and noted that he could destabilize the situation in the country, writes Medusa.

So Putin, during a big press conference, answered the question of those who had gathered to participate in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation Journalists Ksenia Sobchak about "is the government really afraid of fair competition?".

“Regarding the characters you mentioned ... Do you want us like Saakashvili to run along the streets in Ukraine? Those you named are Saakashvili, only in the Russian edition. Do you want them to destabilize the situation in the country, so that there are attempts at coups d'etat? I’m sure that the vast majority of Russian citizens do not want and will not allow this, ”the president added.

Putin also commented on the intention of Sobchak to participate in the presidential elections. “The opposition should come out with a clear program of positive actions,” the president said. “Here you go against all - is that a program of positive actions? And what are you suggesting? ”He said.

Putin also said that “the government should not look like a bearded man who idly picks cabbage out of his beard and looks at how the state turns into some kind of muddy puddle from which the oligarchs pick out and catch a golden fish for themselves”. This situation was in Russia in the 1990-ies, now it is observed in Ukraine, he explained.

Putin assured that the competition in the elections, "certainly will."

In turn, Navalny, responding to Putin’s words, wrote in his Twitter: “And note that today, for the first time, Putin has directly admitted that not allowing me to go to the polls is a conscious political decision. No one says about any “court and convictions”: like we are the power and decided that it is harmful. ”

Recall, Mikhail Saakashvili and his supporters on November 12 held a “March of the Perturbed” in Kiev, which called for an impeachment of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the creation of an anti-corruption court in the country. After the end of the rally, Saakashvili said that if the authorities do not meet the protesters, then we will celebrate the New Year without them. After that, the Ukrainian authorities detained former head of Odessa region and the ex-president of Georgia twice: 5 and 8 December.
