'Our peoples are united by a common history': Putin called Israel a Russian-speaking country
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Israel is a Russian-speaking state, and that the two countries have a common history and extensive family ties.
Israel has the largest population of Russian Jews in the world, most of whom emigrated there from the former Soviet Union in the 1990's. According to research, about 17% of the population of Israel are Russian-speaking.
“We consider Israel a Russian-speaking country,” — Putin said on Tuesday at the fund’s annual conferenceKeren Hayesod" in Moscow.
“Russians and Israelis have family and friendship ties. Our peoples are united by common and often tragic pages in history, ” — he said.

Putin noted that Russia invited Israeli leaders to Moscow to participate in next year's events dedicated to the 75 anniversary of the end of World War II.
“The positions of Russia and Israel, the peoples of our countries, coincide. We consider it completely unacceptable any attempts to reconsider the outcome of the war, distort the truth or justify fascism. ”
