The library in New York free of charge helps immigrants to obtain US citizenship
The Queens Public Library is focusing its efforts on providing free legal assistance to immigrants who wish to apply for US citizenship on the eve of the upcoming presidential elections in the United States.
In the run-up to the US presidential election, the Queens Public Library (QPL) is stepping up its efforts to provide free legal assistance to immigrants who wish to apply for US citizenship.
The library collaborates with a number of community organizations, as well as with the City Hall of New York, offering seminars and information sessions that will help permanent residents apply for citizenship.

The next seminar will be held on April 23, from 10 to 15 watches in the Central Library at: Central Library, 89-11 Merrick Boulevard, Jamaica, NY 11432
The workshop will be held in collaboration with the Catholic Migration Service in English and Spanish. Participants will receive assistance in completing the N-400 form (application for naturalization) and find out if they have the right not to pay a fee.

QPL also collaborates with the Department of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) to promote NYCitizenship in four branches (Astoria, Jackson Heights, Flushing and Central). As part of the program, which was first launched in 2016, visitors can come to information sessions for free and learn about the benefits of citizenship, how easy it is to apply for citizenship, and get financial advice.

The following NYCitizenship QPL information sessions are scheduled for:
- Friday, April 26, on 15: 30 (Astoria, 14-01 Astoria Blvd.);
- Thursday, 23 May, at 15: 30 (Central Library, 1st Floor Conference Room, 89-11 Merrick Blvd.)
According to MOIA, more than half a million New Yorkers are now eligible to become US citizens. Immigrants interested in voting in the next US presidential election should apply for citizenship as soon as possible, since this process can take from six months to a year.
