It's too early to hide winter clothes: weather forecasters told what spring will be in the USA

Less than a month is left until the first day of spring, but forecasters warn that it's not worth hiding winter clothes yet. AccuWeather has released its annual spring forecast, and it looks like much of the US will be dealing with winter weather for much longer than many hoped. Depending on where you live, experts warn that "the winter chills may continue" even after March 20 (the astronomical start of spring). What to prepare for, the publication said Yahoo!.

Usually meteorologists consider the astronomical, not the calendar, beginning of spring. Astronomical Spring occurs during the vernal equinox, March 20 or 21 in the northern hemisphere and September 22 or 23 in the southern hemisphere. In 2021 it will start on March 20.

Northeast residents can expect more than just a few April showers, as the storms predicted to form in late February will remain in March. AccuWeather senior meteorologist Dave Samuhel says the region "will have winter throughout March."

And spring will come slowly in the Midwest - more cold air is expected to pass through the region in the next couple of months. This won't come as a surprise after the sudden cold weather caused by the polar vortex in early February.

Although unusual snow has fallen in the south this winter, it is unlikely that the region will get cold again.

“It was a little chilly on the Gulf Coast,” Dave said. "But it looks like it will get warmer and mild weather will last until March."

West Coast residents also don't have to worry about more storms this spring, but the new season could cause long-term drought. With minimal rainfall, the early heat will make many western states feel like summer is right after winter.

However, the central regions of the United States need to keep a close eye on the weather in late winter and early spring.

“This will be a late start to the severe weather season, but it will be incredibly active,” said meteorologist Reed Timmer. "I think there will be a lot of storms in April and May."
