The parent company of the network, located in Canada in Hudson Bay, announced a hacker attack on its payment systems on Sunday. The company said it is investigating and taking steps to deter attacks.

Information about the hacker attack appeared after the New York security company Gemini advisory reported that a group of hackers known as JokerStash or Fin7, tried to sell card data to users on websites on the Internet. The cost of funds was indicated up to $ 5 million.

The security service confirmed in several banks that many of the compromised records were received from customers Saks and Lord & Taylor.

The company, for its part, stated that it “deeply regrets any inconveniences or concerns that may cause it,” but did not indicate how many customers of the network could suffer.

According to The Guardian, there is evidence that the violations began about a year ago, citing the words of Dmitry Chorin, co-founder Gemini advisory and chief technical officer.

Chorin said that the hackers' method was to send ingenious phishing emails to company employees, especially managers, supervisors, and other key decision makers. When an employee clicks on an attachment, which often looks like an invoice, the system becomes infected.

"For a whole year, criminals could be online Lord & Taylor and Saks and steal data,” he said.

Chorin said that most stolen credit cards appear to have been obtained from stores in New York and the northeastern states of the United States. It is possible, he said, that these stores had not yet adopted safer credit card payment systems that were issued elsewhere.

The company said there was no indication that the breach affected their online stores or other brands, including Home outfitters and shops Hudson's bay Canada.
