Protests against Trump: shooting and arrests

Protests in a number of US cities against the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential elections have reached an unprecedented level of intensity.

Most of the demonstrations are concentrated in the cities of the states in which Hillary Clinton won, reports ABC News.

The most popular performances were held in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland.

The last time the elections were accompanied by mass protests in 2000, but now, according to the professor of political science at Buffallo University in New York, James Campbell, the polarization of society is stronger, which is why protests and disagreements are only intensifying.

According to him, a tough and divided election campaign was conducted in such a way that most Americans with opposing points of view did not even want to enter into a discussion with their opponents and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both candidates, which led to mass protests after the elections.

Meanwhile, during a protest in Portland, Oregon, one of the protesters received a gunshot wound, the city police said.

The incident happened on the west side of the Morrisson Bridge. Police reportedthat the likely suspect is a slender African-American teenager.

After that, the mayor of the city, Charles Hayes, and the head of the city police, Michael Marshman, called on the protesters to calm down and refrain from vandalism.

At the moment, many protesters have been detained.

City police reported about the “dozens” of those arrested.

In addition, in some places, police had to use tear gas and light-noise grenades to deter protesters.

In turn, the former campaign manager for Trump Kellyan Conway said that the development of the protests depends on the position of US President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the entire US Democratic Party, who could reassure their supporters and urge them to peacefully transfer presidential power, reports The Washington Post.

"It's time for President Obama and former Secretary Clinton to tell the protesters, 'This is our president,'" Conway said.

She stressed that Trump intends to be president of all Americans, listen and solve the problems of those who did not support him in the elections.
