Producer of popular chocolates convicted of slave labor and animal abuse

In the production of one of the most popular sweets in the world - jelly candies Haribo — workers have to work in slave-like conditions, and the animals needed to produce gelatin face cruel treatment.

This is evidenced by the investigation of the German channel ARD, which filmed a documentary about the violations in the German company The Haribo Check, writes Huffington Post.

One of the main ingredients of jelly sweets is gelatin, which is produced from animal fat, mainly pork. Gelatin supplier for Haribo is a German company GELITA, which owns its farm, the conditions of housing and growing pigs in which are far from normal.

Animals are kept in confined spaces without access to water. Because of the complete lack of sanitation, ulcers appear on their bodies. Some individuals do not live to the slaughter and at the same time remain lying in the barn among the living pigs.

On owned Haribo palm plantations from which carnauba wax is extracted is the second main ingredient of sweets, workers have to work in slave conditions. They do not have protective clothing, they sleep in trucks and do not have access to drinking water or equipped toilets. At the same time, for hours of work, they receive no more than 12 dollars a day.

Мanagement Haribo denied the accusations, calling the data shown in the film untrue. According to the press service of the company, the conditions on the pork farm and plantations are perfectly normal, since they operate in accordance with all state standards. However, the company promised to organize an internal investigation to verify the data in the film.
