A hangover was recognized as a disease: how much they lose due to drinking company employees in the United States
German courts have ruled that hangover is a disease. This news is very appropriate on the eve of Oktoberfest. Writes about this Fox Business.
Frankfurt judges made this decision after the plaintiffs stated that one of the companies offers “hangover shots” and powders that should relieve all symptoms of alcohol consumption.
“A dietary supplement may not be attributed any property that purports to prevent, treat, or purport to prevent or treat disease,” the lawsuit states.
But this decision may be bad news for enterprises that have to lose impressive amounts, because employees will miss work because of a hangover.
According to a survey and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a hangover causes massive damage to businesses whose financial losses total 41,8 billion.
On the subject: How much alcohol do Americans bring to the party
While for large companies the absence of workers is less noticeable, small enterprises can suffer seriously if their employees take sick days every time to recover from a hangover.
On average, companies spend about 355 dollars per year for one employee suffering from a hangover. According to a Delphi Health Group study, most employees use one paid leave per year and two sick days when they have drunk too much.
The amount of 355 dollars may seem small, but considering that in 2018, almost 157 million workers were employed in American enterprises (75 percent of them said they went to work with a hangover), more than 41 billion was spent on the days when these people took sick leave because of their hangover.
Thus, because of the money that does not actually cover the wages of employees, but their sick leave certificates, small businesses can suffer huge losses.

German companies are concerned that the new law will deprive them of profitability. At the same time, the study found that workers who suffered from excessive drinking at night and went to work in the morning were less productive - they worked only five hours a day.
46,3% of these people pretended to create the appearance that they were working, and almost 46% of the 1000 respondents said that they took a shower repeatedly to refresh themselves. Another 19% replied that they actually took a nap at work to alleviate the hangover.
