The authorities of the island of Sicily set out to quickly return tourists to their resorts after the opening of the Italian borders, writes Lowcost.ua.
Tourists plan to return 50% of the cost of air tickets and money spent for every third night at the hotel. In addition, visitors are promised to provide free admission to museums and archaeological sites.
The regional government plans to spend 50 million euros (more than 54 million dollars) to reimburse the costs of foreign tourists while traveling to the largest Italian island. Vouchers for those wishing to take advantage of this offer will soon appear on tourist site of sicily.
Before the crisis, the tourism industry generated 13% of Italy’s GDP, and in March-April, the country's treasury received less than 1 billion tourist euros (1,08 billion dollars) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of borders.
