The explosion in Afghanistan killed four US soldiers, three more were wounded.

Three US military personnel and one contract worker were killed on April 8 when a bomb exploded near the main US base in Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.

The US and NATO mission "Resolute Support" stated that four Americans were killed near the Bagram airbase north of Kabul, three more were injured in an explosion, writes New York Post. The base in the Bagram area is located in the northern province of Parwan and serves as the main US air object in the country.

The wounded were evacuated and receive medical care, the report said. In accordance with the policy of the US Department of Defense, the names of the servicemen killed in action are not disclosed until the next of kin is notified.

In a statement of responsibility, the Taliban said they deliberately launched the attack when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden car near a NATO base.

Seven American soldiers have died in Afghanistan this year, compared with 7 last year, once again highlighting the difficulties in establishing peace in this war-torn country. Even as Washington stepped up efforts to find a peaceful solution to the 13-year war, the longest, including for US military personnel.

In Afghanistan, there are about 14 000 of the American military, which support the warring Afghan forces in their struggle on two fronts: with the resurgent Taliban movement, which now dominate half the country, as well as with the branch of the Islamic state, which seeks to expand its presence in Afghanistan, having suffered a collapse in Syria and Iraq.

The Taliban continue to attack the Afghan security forces on a daily basis, despite holding several rounds of peace talks with the United States. Taliban representatives refused to meet with the Afghan government, which they view as a puppet of the United States.

In the meantime, the Taliban agreed to take part in the Afghan meeting, which will be held at the end of this month in Qatar, where the rebels maintain their political office. But the Taliban declares that they do not recognize a single government official present at the meeting as a representative of the Kabul government, but only as a separate participant from the Afghan side.
