An American who wished to remain anonymous, met 35-year-old swindler John Martin Hill on Match.com's 27 March website. On the same day, the couple met, and a week later became engaged. The man introduced himself as a millionaire. He convinced a naive woman that they were “made for each other” and should buy a house.

The victim gave her savings to Martin Hill, after which the fraudster broke off all ties and disappeared without a trace.

According to preliminary data, the criminal previously lived in the city of Duluth with another woman and child. The investigation revealed that Hill recently acquired a BMW 2014 car of the year and repainted it black. Swindler changed his name at least five times in the last 2,5 of the year.
