In the US, the number of vacancies has exceeded the number of unemployed Americans

Unemployment curves in the US and requests from companies for new specialists diverged to a historical maximum. At the same time, the number of IT specialists in the market has dropped to a minimum in 20 years.

In April, the number of vacancies exceeded the number of unemployed Americans. This is evidenced by data from the US Department of Labor, writes RBC.

Adjusted for seasonality at the end of the month 7,45 million vacancies were registered. The indicator has not changed much since March. At the same time, the number of unemployed fell from 6,21 million to 5,82 million.

Thus, the job offer exceeded the demand for 1,625 million. This is a new historical maximum.

The emergence of new jobs in the US is slowing. At the beginning of the year, growth rates were calculated in double digits, but in April, growth was 4,8%. And the employers themselves began to hire new employees at a slower pace.

Experts attribute this to a reduction in the working-age population with a slowdown in the economy, as well as trade instability between the United States and China.

The US Department of Labor data also show that unemployment among IT professionals has reached the 20-year minimum in the country. In May, it fell to 1,3%. Therefore, companies have to actively struggle to attract new people.

In 2018, the technology professions accounted for 7,6% of the entire US workforce. According to the CompTIA association, by 2026, the rate will rise to 13,1%.
