Fires in California: 31 dead, more than 200 missing
The death toll due to forest fires in California has reached 31 man. More than 200 people are reported missing.
Authorities confirmed the death of six more people from Camp fire in northern California. A total of 29 people died there. It also reported two victims of the Woolsey fire in the south of the state. More than 250, thousands of residents had to leave their homes.
Amid growing winds threatening to spread fire further, Governor Jerry Brown called on US President Donald Trump to declare a state of emergency. This measure will open access to federal funds to eliminate the consequences of fires.
Brown came up with such an initiative the day after Trump threatened to cut funding for California, accusing local authorities of incompetence due to fires.

At a press conference on Sunday evening, Sheriff Corey Khonia announced that the bodies of five people had been found in burnt houses. The sixth dead was found in the car.
Paradise Mayor Jodie Jones told the BBC about the situation in the city: “Most of the housing has been destroyed. 90% percent. I had the opportunity to see everything with my own eyes. Almost everyone I know has lost their home.”
This fire was the most devastating in the history of the state and a record number of victims. According to the authorities, 44 burned thousands of hectares.

Woolsey fire
The fire began on Thursday near the town of Towsend Oaks, 64 km north-west of Los Angeles. This city has already been mentioned in the news the other day: a former Marine has opened fire at a local bar, killing 12 people.
By Sunday, a fire engulfed thousands of hectares of 33 and destroyed 177 buildings. Authorities have reported that looting incidents have been reported, and several people have been arrested in connection with this. Meteorologists warn of the danger of fire tornadoes.

What politicians say
Governor Brown turned to Trump, hoping to attract additional resources to fight fires, the effect of which he called catastrophic.
“We are doing everything we can to fight the fire and look forward to additional federal assistance in the hardest-hit communities,” Brown said in a letter to the president.
Trump has already been criticized for not being sensitive enough. The day before, while in France to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, Trump tweeted that the issue was poor forest management.
Earlier, the US president blamed California authorities for fires and threatened to cut federal funding.
