The embassy recommends that Russians leave the US because of COVID-19: how to return to their homeland

The Russian Consulate General in New York “strongly recommends” citizens of the Russian Federation to return to their homeland amid the coronavirus pandemic, as reported on the official page in Facebook.

“Due to the rapid spread of coronavirus, there is a threat of closure of US airspace by the American authorities,” the consulate’s account said. “In this regard, we strongly recommend that Russian citizens take advantage of these flights to return to Russia as quickly as possible.”

The evacuation of Russian citizens is carried out only from those states from which regular flights to Russia have been stopped, the Consulate General notes.

Currently, Aeroflot operates regular flights from the United States. After March 29, flights will be operated only from New York.

A statement for citizens who plan to return to their homeland was also made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Attention: until 14:00 (local time of the country of your stay) on March 26, 2020, lists are being formed for organizing export flights to Russia from abroad for citizens of the Russian Federation,” the Foreign Ministry reports.

It is clarified that after returning to Russia it will be necessary to comply with 14-day quarantine.

According to March 25, such flights are available from major US cities:

Los Angeles (LAX) - Sheremetyevo (SVO), Moscow (MOW)

March 26-28, inclusive at 16:40 local time. From March 29, flights from Los Angeles are discontinued.

Miami (MIA) - Sheremetyevo (SVO), Moscow (MOW)

March 26, you can fly on flights at 18:00 local time, March 27 and 28 flights at 21:35 local time. Since March 29, flights from Miami have been discontinued.

Kennedy (JFK), New York (NYC), USA - Sheremetyevo (SVO), Moscow (MOW)

March 26, there are two flights: at 14:25 and at 20:25 local time, March 27 and 28 there are flights at 20:25 local time. March 29, the flight is offered at 19:20 local time, then check the schedule.

Aeroflot flies to Los Angeles and New York from cities such as Washington, Dallas, Denver, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans, Orlando, Portland, Raleigh, San Antonio, San Diego, San Diego Francisco, Tampa and Phoenix.
