After canceling a flight, Delta delivered schoolchildren to Florida by private jet

After a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia was canceled due to weather, a group of high school students planning to compete in the Disney Cross Country Classic running event in Orlando, Florida, began looking for another way to get to their destination. The teenagers decided to get Delta Air Lines' attention on social media - and it turned out even better than expected.

Delta spokesman Drake Castaneda said the airline received social media messages from members of a crew of 80 high school students in Ocean City, New Jersey - the teens wrote on Oct. 10 after their Frontier flight from Philadelphia to Orlando was canceled, reports Yahoo.

“We are so excited to be flying to the Disney competition but our flight was cancelled!!! @Delta, can you help?,” read one message.

The airline found a backup plane and crew and transported the students along with their accompanying persons to Orlando in a private plane. It is noteworthy that Delta does not usually operate flights from Philadelphia to Orlando.

The flight flew out of Philadelphia at about 3 Eastern time on Friday morning and landed in Orlando shortly after 5 morning.

“Thank you @Delta for giving us a private charter! We will always be grateful for your kindness and generosity,” the running team’s account wrote. “Definitely a first-class act!”

Frontier Airlines agreed with Delta to arrange a trip for the group after the cancellation of the passenger flight.

“We were made aware that the cancellation was impacting the athletic group that traveled to compete, and our team began looking at other options to get them to Orlando as quickly as possible,” Frontier spokesman Zach Kramer told USA TODAY. “We found an opportunity to book the group on a new flight with a different airline and helped them organize their new trip.”

Delta's efforts were worth it: both teams of boys from student and youth universities took first place in their races, and the girls' teams got second place in the student and fourth place in the junior university race.
