Poroshenko is ready to exchange Savchenko for the Russian military (updated)
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he was ready to exchange two Russian servicemen detained in Ukraine for Nadezhda Savchenko, whom the court today gave 22 to the prison year.
Poroshenko did not name their names, but, obviously, we are talking about Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, who are being tried in Ukraine on charges of terrorism. Poroshenko said that at the end of the trial, he was ready to transfer them to Russia.
“I, in turn, am ready to hand over to Russia two Russian servicemen detained on our territory for participation in armed aggression against Ukraine. The trial of their cases is at the final stage. Immediately after completion, I am ready, through the appropriate procedures, to ensure their departure to the Russian Federation,” Poroshenko said.
He also noted that he would never recognize the justice of the verdict against Savchenko.
“This was a shameful trial that the aggressor country held over the Ukrainian Officer with a capital O, who, as it should be, defended her land from enemy attacks. Ukraine never, I emphasize again, never! “does not recognize either this trial or their so-called verdict, which with its absurdity and cruelty testifies to the return of Russian justice to the times of Stalin-Vyshinsky,” he said.
According to the Ukrainian president, Vladimir Putin at the talks on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass promised to give Savchenko to the Ukrainian authorities after the trial.
As the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said after the verdict, Vladimir Putin himself will take the decision on the exchange of the pilots convicted in Russia.
“The Russian side will act in strict accordance with national legislation. Otherwise, only the president can make the decision. I can’t say which one yet,” Peskov told RIA Novosti.
As wrote earlier by ForumDaily, the Russian court recognized Nadezhda Savchenko was guilty and sentenced with 22 years of imprisonment in a penal colony and a fine of 30 thousand rubles.
