Poroshenko and Putin can meet in September

The meeting of President Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin can take place before the end of September.

Negotiations in the Normandy format will probably take place before the start of the UN General Assembly session in New York, which is scheduled for the end of September.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin plans to to fly to the USA for the first time in eight years and take part in the UN General Assembly.

24 August Poroshenko in Berlin met with Merkel and Hollande. No new statements were made after it, the meeting was similar to the preparation of negotiations with Putin.

Poroshenko noted that he excludes replacing the “Normandy format”, despite the fact that there are other proposals around the world.

“A powerful international coalition in support of Ukraine was created immediately after the annexation of Crimea. Since that time, we have a unanimous position of the European Union,” he said, recalling numerous statements by the European Union condemning Russian aggression.

Merkel also stated the need to strengthen the Normandy format, rather than create a new one.

The Normandy format is a diplomatic group of high-ranking representatives of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine.
